Does it read handwriting?
Yes, and it is the main reason to use a scanner instead of typing. Write clearly, get the whole problem in frame including the limits of integration, and avoid shooting at a steep angle. A printed textbook problem is easier still.
Does it show the steps or just the answer?
The steps, with the rule named at each one. An answer on its own is worth almost nothing when the exam asks you to show your work, and it teaches you nothing about the next problem.
How is this different from a graphing calculator?
A calculator computes what you already know how to set up. This reads a problem you cannot start, and shows you the setup. The two solve different halves of the same homework.
Will it help with algebra and trig too?
